Have You Been Searching For A “Scoliosis Pain Specialist” In New Paltz or Highland, NY?

Scoliosis is a complex condition with many variables. There is no “cure” for scoliosis, but treatments exist to help alleviate pain, improve function and your tolerance for exercise, and to assist with self-image, appearance, and confidence. Depending on the severity of the condition, you may need a team of clinicians working together – sometimes bracing and surgical interventions are necessary. With that noted, one of the best, research-driven therapies is the Schroth Method to treat scoliosis.

I am a certified practitioner of the Schroth Method to treat scoliosis through the SSOL school (SSOL directory here), (U.S. based Schroth PTs listed here). Scoliosis patients are evaluated and treated by me using the Schroth Method, which is a patient-centered approach to scoliosis treatment, and can be used to treat scoliosis in patients of all ages, from children to seniors. The therapy is designed to empower the patient by giving them the knowledge and tools to take an active role in their treatment. Patients are taught how to perform customized exercises correctly, and they are encouraged to practice them regularly at home. This helps to build confidence and independence, which is invaluable for long-term management of scoliosis.

Am I a good candidate for the Schroth approach?

The patients who achieve the best and longest-lasting outcomes are those who take the time to learn the exercises, and commit to doing them consistently for an extended period of time. I tell my Schroth and other back pain patients, “It is like brushing your teeth. You need to do it consistently, not only when you feel pain or notice a problem.” Once you have a good understanding of your own exercise program, you will be taught how to keep doing them regularly on your own. “Check-ins” can be scheduled to monitor your progress and to make sure your exercise form and selection is good. With regular practice, Schroth therapy can help patients with scoliosis to manage their condition, improve their quality of life, and avoid the need for more invasive treatments.

If you or a loved one has scoliosis, consider exploring Schroth therapy as a treatment option. With the guidance of a skilled Schroth therapist, you can take steps towards improving your quality of life and managing scoliosis for the long-term.

We want to be a part of your therapy team! Education for our patients is crucial with scoliosis – we can teach you how to manage your scoliosis, and work together on your lifelong goals. We will build a customized program of scoliosis-specific exercises and activities to suit your specific scoliosis curve and goals.

All of our Physical Therapy evaluations and treatments are performed by me, Dr. Roland Alley, PT, DPT. I have formed my own approach to treat spine and orthopedic conditions through studying a number of different treatment systems. I have done coursework and utilize various components of the following treatment approaches to treat my patients:

McGill Method
Schroth Method (scoliosis)
Functional Range Conditioning (FRC)
SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment)
FMS (Functional Movement Systems)
PRI (Postural Restoration Institute)
